Did you know there’s a Roman heritage site on the Rhine very similar to an industrial site in Walton-le-dale near Preston, Lancashire. Only ours isn’t a national heritage site- they put a bowling alley on it 😦 Hope you enjoy the journey and local history.
Gods weep – a bowling alley? Sigh…. the Germans take especial care of all things Roman and Celtic – all throughout the tour we came across beautiful and preserved sites, and were told that whenever you built anything in Germany, you held your breath as the house foundations were being dug, in case there were Roman remains, which meant you had to wait another two years for your house to be built after all the archaeology had finished! x
